Railway

Did you know that Hallsberg has the largest shunting yard in the Nordic? As the West main railroad crosses the major freight route through the area of Bergslagen right here, Hallsberg is also the most important rail hub for freight transports in the country.

In 2001, 20 percent of the containers arriving by boat to Gothenburg port were loaded onto trains; in 2019, the equivalent number was 60 percent. Today 80 percent of the goods delivered by freight trains in Sweden pass by Hallsberg sooner or later. In comparison, this corresponds to 350 trains during a 24-hour period. The Swedish Transport Administration expects this number to double by 2050. As a large proportion of the electrical power produced in Sweden comes from renewable sources, railway is a truly sustainable alternative.

Given the short distance to Hallsberg, railway is a natural part of our offer. Well established operators and infrastructure make it easy for you to include railway in your transport chain. The largest railway maintenance centre in the Nordic is under construction, and from Hallsberg there’s also a commuting train to Europe several times a week.
